This week was busy! We studied the letter D. Our theme this week was 'dinosaurs,' and the students loved it! In math, we're working on counting to twenty with one-to-one correspondence. For example, if there are eleven frogs, we point to each frog, and assign it a number as we count to eleven.
I can already tell that some kiddos have worked on their tripod grip at home. Thank you for reinforcing that concept outside of school! It's a valuable life-skill, and we're on our way to being great writers!
Last week we talked about coconuts, and this week, we were able to find one. We cut it open to see what was inside. The kiddos think it smells like sunscreen! What a rich experience for young children! Nebraska doesn't have a lot of coconuts, so it was the first time some of them had ever seen one. I love watching them explore something completely new!
We've added a rice table to our classroom, which allows the students the opportunity to explore texture, develop fine motor skills, and understand pre-physics concepts. It's been a big hit, despite a few spills. Our rule in preschool is, "If you make a mess, then you clean it up!" and the kiddos are now almost experts at managing their own messes, especially with the rice table.
It's so fun to see the personalities of each child, and how they affect the overall climate of the classroom. In general, the morning class is very energetic, friendly, and loquacious. The afternoon class is very inquisitive, expressive, and joy-filled.
Mrs. McArthur and I have a blast with these kids, and we love coming to school every day! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Here are a few upcoming reminders:
If your child is ill, or won't be at school, please remember to call the office to let them know. Thanks!
Again, please remember, there is NO preschool on Monday, October 5 due to an all-school inservice day for teachers.
Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 6. If you'd like more info about picture retakes, please see the front office.
Our classroom is running low on a few items. Our snack supply has diminished. I told you that we'd be asking again for refills throughout the year, and we're already there! Please send crackers or dry cereal so that we can continue to have snacks at preschool. Additionally, we're going through antibacterial wipes like crazy! If you could, please send more wipes as well. Thanks in advance!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, comments, or celebrations, please contact me!
