This week was a weird week because we had no school on Monday, and on Thursday we had our Halloween/Harvest party! Instead of doing a new letter this week, we reviewed all the letters we've learned so far: A-H. We'll start next week with I. I've included some photos from the past week. Take a look!

We studied the letter H this week! H is for home. We talked about different kinds of homes and we read the Three Little Pigs. The pigs built their homes out of three different items and the bricks were the strongest. Most of our home are made out of bricks because they're strong!
This week we cut open pumpkins to see what's inside. Most of the students were brave enough to stick their hand in and feel how slimy it is! We took the seeds out and baked them, then we ate pumpkin seeds and they were a big hit! The students are super excited for more dress-up days next week for Red Ribbon Week and Halloween! On Monday, there is no school for parent-teacher conferences. On Tuesday, wear red to kick-start Red Ribbon Week! On Wednesday, put a cap on drugs by wearing a hat! On Thursday, wear your Halloween costume for our class party! For the class parties, the schedule will go like this: MORNING CLASS 8:00-9:00 Greeting Meeting, Free Choice Centers 9:00-10:00 Trick-or-Treating at the Cambridge Manor 10:00-11:00 Classroom Party 11:00-11:30 Lunch in the classroom AFTERNOON CLASS 12:00-12:30 Lunch in the classroom 12:30-1:30 Greeting Meeting, Free Choice Centers 1:30-2:30 Trick-or-Treating at the Cambridge Manor 2:30-3:30 Classroom Party If you have any questions, please let me know. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at conferences! G is for globe! This week we learned about globes. Since maps are a very abstract concept for young minds, we focused mainly on the idea that the world is round and is mostly water. We found Nebraska on the globes and got frustrated when we couldn't see our houses on there, too! However, some of the students had the opportunity to explore GoogleEarth and find their homes. This was very exciting, and hopefully is an activity that has broadened their small scope of the world.
As the weather changes, please bring your child to school with weather-appropriate clothes. It's getting chilly outside, and we go outside every day - barring rain or snow. I hope to see you all at conferences on Monday, October 26. I sent home your scheduled conference time, so, as always, please let me know if you have any questions! Sorry I'm a few days late!
This week we learned about the letter F. F is for Fire Safety Week. We learned about how to stay safe in a fire, and what to do if there is a fire at school or at home. The students had the opportunity to ride in a real firetruck and see the gear that real firefighters wear! We also practiced a fire drill, and got everyone outside safely. Our preschool made a fire safety banner for the hallway, which includes all of our handprints! As the weather changes, please bring your child to school wearing appropriate clothing. We will go outside every day unless it's raining or snowing. Lately, it's been chilly in the morning, and we go outside at 8:30. Thanks! Additionally, I sent home your finalized time for parent-teacher conferences. I hope to see you in my classroom on Monday, October 26 to discuss your child's progress. :) As always, if you have any questions, please let me know! In preschool, we learned about the letter E this week. E is for egg. We talked about animals that come from eggs. Quiz your child! I bet they can list 4-5 animals that come from eggs! We also read Green Eggs and Ham, and then we made our own green eggs! Many of the children were brave enough to try them - and some even asked for seconds!
We introduced iPads to the afternoon group this week. The kids are great at using the QR code reader. There are QR codes throughout the classroom, and the kids love to scan them and see where they lead! With the weather getting chilly, I ask you to remember that we go outside every day, unless it's raining or snowing. Please bring weather-appropriate clothes for your child. Thanks! Next week is Fire Safety Week. We'll practice a fire drill, and get to see a real fire truck. A firefighter is going to visit us and tell us about his job. Awesome! There is NO school on Monday, October 5 due to a teacher in-service day. Picture retake day is Tuesday, October 6. If you're interested in retakes, please contact the front office. Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on Monday, October 26. Since I have 30 students to accommodate, please be flexible when it comes to scheduling a conference for your child. I've sent home a purple form on which you can select two times you prefer to meet with me. I'll send home your finalized time before the 26th. October will be a busy month! As we go, please don't hesitate to contact me about anything concerning your child's education or wellbeing. |
