Hello! April is coming to a close, and we're preparing for the end of the school year. We have finished our weekly letters and are going to spend May reviewing the alphabet. Additionally, the afternoon class will eat in the lunch room to prepare for kindergarten. If you have any questions about the transition to kindergarten, please contact me at [email protected].

March has been a fun month! We started with some chilly weather. A leprechaun named Lucky visited our classroom for a week leading up to St. Patrick's Day. He did some crazy things like dyeing the toilet water green, and poking his head through a Lucky Charms box. We also celebrated our 100th Day of School!
The afternoon class even visited the Manor to perform a play! This spring will fly by, and we're excited to finish the year strong! COMING UP... Home Visits... All the home visits have been scheduled! Thank you for helping us complete these!

We also studied letters R, S, and T. COMING UP...

A NOTE FROM THE TEACHER... Mrs. McArthur and I are having a blast with this group! We introduced musical instruments during free choice time, and it's been a favorite for the kids (maybe not the teachers...😆). The preschoolers have studied the five senses, apples, and dinosaurs. We've seen improvements with name recognition (thank you!) and we've seen many students handle social problems with their words. This is such a fun time of year, and it's amazing to see little minds grow so quickly! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! My information can be found on the contact page of this blog. Here are a few photos from the last month. Enjoy! We've had a great start to the school year! Home visits are completed and the students are learning how school works! We've been studying the letter B, and the life cycle of the butterfly. Quiz your preschooler!

A NOTE FROM THE TEACHER... With your help, we’d like the preschoolers to become independent with certain tasks. We need your help to do this. Please say your goodbyes before the child enters the classroom. We have a full day of learning ahead, and we need your help to start on time. By providing opportunities for children to do things on their own, we’re building their self-help skills and their confidence. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. Additionally, if your child arrives late to school (after 8:00am or 12:10pm), you'll need to sign them in through the office. I understand that life happens and sometimes you run late, so thank you for understanding our policy. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! My information can be found on the contact page of this blog. Here are a few photos from our first weeks at school. Enjoy! Well, we've wrapped up our last full week of preschool. Next week, we'll just have school Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is preschool graduation at 10:00 in the school auditorium.
We've had a great year, and I can't wait to celebrate with you on Wednesday! We're at the end of the year, and it's been a great one!
Preschool graduation is Wednesday, May 17 at 10:00am in the school auditorium. We're asking parents to please bring one dozen of some cookies/treats to share at the reception which will immediately follow the ceremony. Thank you for your continued support! Check out these photos of your amazing kids! Hello! We've had a week of gorgeous weather! I'll be sending home kindergarten assessments (for the kids going to kindergarten next year) so you can see what your child knows!
Preschool graduation (for the kids going to kindergarten next year) will be held on May 17 at 10:00am in the school auditorium. We're asking for each student to bring one dozen of some treat to share with families in a reception after the ceremony. The last day of preschool for both classes is May 16. In May, the PM class will begin eating in the lunchroom every day to prepare for kindergarten. We'll still come in through the preschool door, and then we'll go as a class to the cafeteria. Please email me with any questions! This week, we studied the letter U. We talked about UNDERPANTS! We read funny stories and giggled a lot!
Book orders were due today. I submitted the orders and they should be here in a few weeks. Enjoy the long weekend with your families! We'll see everybody back at school on Tuesday, April 18. Check out your amazing kids! This week we focused on the letter C!
We also worked on rhyming, and we acted out Goldilocks! Book orders are due April 13! Enjoy these photos of your kiddos! Please let me know if you have any questions! This week we studied the letter G. G is tricky because it has two different sounds. Quiz your preschooler! We also worked on extending patterns and some number recognition activities.
The middle schoolers came to read to our class and the preschoolers loved it! I'm currently doing a pre-kindergarten assessment for those students who will go to kindergarten next year. When they're finished, I'll send them home, so you can see what these kiddos know! If you have questions, please contact me! Book orders are due online by April 13. Preschool graduation will be Wednesday, May 17 at 10am in the school auditorium (This is only for the students who will go to kindergarten next year.) There will be a reception in our classroom following the ceremony, and the rest of the school will dismiss at 11am. This week flew by! Parent-teacher conferences went well, and we reviewed the letter A.
We also celebrated the 100th day of school! The kids were really excited to be 100 days smarter! We played games and had a little party! Next week, we will study the letter C. Book Orders are due April 13. If you have questions about anything, please contact me! Hello! I'm glad to be back in the classroom with your kiddos! It's been tough to be away from baby Oliver, but I'm thrilled to be back in a routine.
This week, we learned about the letter A. It's tricky because it has two sounds. Quiz your preschooler and see if they can tell you the sounds! Parent-teacher conferences will be Monday, March 20 from 1-5 & 5:45-8pm. Please feel free to stop by if you have concerns about your child's progress. Next week we will celebrate the 100th day of school! It's hard to believe time has flown so quickly! March 31 is preschool roundup, which does NOT affect students who are already enrolled. There is no kindergarten roundup because the current preschoolers will simply roll right into kindergarten next year. I'll send home book orders next week, which will be due April 13. As I sit here working on the blog, I can't believe how fast the school year has gone. Knowing that we have only a few weeks left of school is crazy! Mrs. Dodson will be returning to the classroom on Thursday, that was a super fast 6 weeks! I want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Webb for all her time she has put into our classroom. It has been a true joy working with her and watching her teach "our" kiddos:)
March 20 NO SCHOOL Parent Teacher Conferences are from 1-5 & 5:45-8 Please stop in to say HI, it will be very informal and we would love to get the chance to chat. March 31 will be Preschool Round-Up This will be for any NEW students for the 2017-2018 school year. After a wonderful week of weather, winter came back! As the class studied the letter W this week, weather was talked about and quickly it can change.
Next week is National Read Across America week. Our class will participate in the daily activities along with the rest of the school. Here is a list of activities: Monday February 27th-Cat in the Hat day Students can wear a hat for the day Tuesday February 28th-Fox in Socks day Students can wear silly socks for the day Wednesday February 28th-Wacky Wednesday Students wear wacky clothes Thursday March 1-Oh the Places you'll Go day Students can wear a college shirt The FFA students came to visit this week and helped the kiddos paint corn cobs in honor of National FFA week. It was fun having the older students work with the preschoolers! Please continue working with your child on the tripod grip when writing and coloring. It's important that we instill these writing habits early, so that these kiddos can have the best chance for success as they move toward kindergarten! If you want tips on the tripod grip, please let me know! This week as flown by! I can't believe how quickly the year is moving along. We will be celebrating our 100th day in no time.
I don't have a whole to to share this week. The Valentine's parties were a hit! Thank you to the Momma's who helped out, we greatly appreciate you all. Mrs. Dodson sent us a quick little video this week to tell us all Hi and that she misses us all. She is enjoying her maternity leave and her time home with Oliver. Our student aide, Konner Banzhaff, made it to state for wrestling. During our lunch today, we were able to watch him wrestle, and win. The kids loved being able to see him on the smartboard! We want to wish our other student aide, Karlie Sines, the best of luck this weekend as she competes in state Cheerleading. Go Trojans! This week, we learned about the letter V. Ask your preschooler what sound V makes! They should be able to show you the Visual Phonics hand signal for it, too! We've begun to explore shapes, and for many of the students, identifying them has been a review! Thanks for all you do at home with these kiddos to help them learn. Your efforts are appreciated!
Tuesday will be our Valentine's Day party. The students are encouraged to bring Valentine's to share with their classmates, but if they do not want to that is ok. They all decorated their bags this week and are excited to celebrate during the class party. Because they are kids:) please remember to have an extra set of clothes in their backpacks. We never know when life is going to happen! We studied the letter T. Lately the students have been working very hard on recognizing and writing their names. We've already seen great improvement! Like I've said before, please work with your child on the tripod grip when holding a writing utensil. For some, it's a struggle to build small muscle dexterity in those little hands! When the students say that their hands are getting tired, that's a good sign! Coloring, tracing, writing, and drawing are all essential skills for young children. Please encourage them to explore these skills at home.
It was fun introducing Groundhog's Day to some of the kids. We watched a couple video clips talking about the the history of February 2nd and what it means when the groundhog sees his shadow. This week we learned about the letter R. It was fun seeing how many R words we could come up with, these kids are so smart! We introduced a sequencing game this week. Looking just at pictures, they had to tell me what was happening and to put the 4 pictures in order. This was a great way to build on vocabulary as well as story tell. I'm sure we'll have to do more next week!
Mrs. Webb will be in the preschool, starting Monday, while Mrs. Dodson is on her maternity leave. No baby yet, but it will be soon!! The kids are doing a great job of wearing their warm winter gear, keep it up! Hopefully Punxsutawney Phil does not see his shadow and Spring will arrive soon! Information on our Valentine's Day Party were sent home last week. Please let me know if there is anything you need help with. We have lots of supplies in the classroom, so check with us, we might have what you are needing. With our crazy, short week we had, we are looking forward to having a normal schedule next week.
I know that many of the kids have turned in their School Store envelopes and are waiting to receive their emoji squish balls. Please be patient, we ran out of them and the school has more being shipped, soon:) Next week new book orders will be sent home. Please have your orders turned in my February 23. Continue to use our online classroom code P8B98 to place your order. Your purchase helps our classroom earn new books, so Thank You! Additionally, after you place your order, please email me to let me know that you placed your order. We had some issues last time and I want to make sure everyone gets their books. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your homes for the second round of home visits! With those behind us, we'll dive into second semester. Because my maternity leave will last until the middle/end of March, we'll likely do Spring parent-teacher conferences a little differently. They'll probably be on an as-needed basis. If we have concerns about your child, I'll contact you directly, and I hope you'll contact me with your questions and concerns as they arise.
There will be NO SCHOOL on January 18, due to FCCLA Districts. Please plan accordingly. This week, many of your children returned their School Store packets and should receive their koosh ball soon... the office has ordered more and they should arrive next week! So, don't worry! This week, we studied the letter P and thought of LOTS of words that begin with the /p/ sound. Quiz your child! They should be able to tell you what sound it makes and give you some examples. If your transportation plans change or you're running late to pick up your child, please call to let the office know. There have been a few instances where kiddos are confused about their transportation plans because we haven't been alerted by the parents. The office phone number is 308-697-3322. Thanks! While I'm gone, Amber Webb will be my substitute. She has taught preschool before and is a familiar face as a substitute in our school. I know she'll be a great addition to our classroom! If you need to contact her while I'm gone, you can call the main office, or you can email me or Barb directly. We'll make sure you get in contact with her. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! |
